Top 10 Breastfeeding Tips for Working Moms

Top 10 Breastfeeding Tips for Working Moms
By Lois Whittaker Owner, Cushie Pushie Company
marketing@cushiepushie.com http://www.cushiepushie.com/

Being a mom and breastfeeding is a very important job and hard work for both new and experienced moms. You are providing vital nutrients to your precious bundles of joy. Add in a full-time job, and it sometimes seems a bit overwhelming. As a fellow working mom and someone who breastfeed her two boys, you can be successful and here are ten breastfeeding tips for working moms to help:

  1. Get lots of rest– You’ll be tempted to try to do too much as the overachiever you probably are.
  2. Drink lots of water & eat right – Put a big sports bottle of water and ice at your desk and finish it by lunch then another by the time you leave work. Break away from your desk to eat a healthy lunch.
  3. Schedule pumping time on your calendar – Make an appointment with your breast pump. If it’s not on your calendar people will think you are free and schedule you.
  4. Network – Whether it be from a good friend, parenting website, breastfeeding group, or lactation consultant, if you need help ask. They can give tons of suggestions you’d never think of on your own.
  5. Get Comfortable – Whether it’s while nursing your baby or pumping, you need to find spot where both you and your baby can be comfortable. Scout out a private location at work where you can pump. Put a sign on the door to keep others out, so you can pump without being interrupted if needed.
  6. Ask about Flex Time and Alternative Work Schedules – If you don’t ask, your work will not offer it. Maybe you can go back to work part-time initially or work new hours that would better align with your babies’ feeding schedule. Ask about telecommuting if it’s available and would work for your job.
  7. Try to Find A Daycare Close to Work – You could pop over quick “lunch” for baby.
  8. Get the Right Tools – Don’t skimp on a breast pump. This will be a huge part of your life and you need one that is comfortable and can do the job. Buy a good one or rent one. Get a good nursing pillow, nursing bra and breast support pillow to help make your life easier.
  9. Don’t Give Up - Stress from juggling work and family, can cause you to quit before you would like to. Don’t give up, you can do this!!!
  10. Relax, be flexible, AND ENJOY – Make breastfeeding a personal experience and adapt as you need. What works for one may not work for another. Just find your nursing groove and relax because you are providing your baby a precious gift. Enjoy the experience of snuggling with your baby as you feed him.

Happy Breastfeeding!!!!

Classy Mommy Cyber Shower Games

Here's my entries into the shower games: (Go to http://www.classymommy.com/blog.php to join in the fun. There are over 46 prizes to win.)

GAME # 1

If you want your 1st pick of the prizes – let us know in your comment or blog party post how long the labor and delivery of your 1st baby took! The quickest labor and delivery will win!

My labor was really quick with #1. They started inducing me at 3:00pm with something to soften my cervix and I had a few minor contractions but went into actual labor around 3:00am when my water broke, started pushing around 3:50am and had ds#1 at 4:04Am so I guess labor was 1 hour and 4 minutes. Thank goodness for fast labor :). They orginially said oh, you won't delivery for another 12 hours or so. Opps, were they wrong. LOL! :) Actually ds#2 was about almost 2 hours but he was face down so he took a little longer to find his way out. I can't imagine you poor mommies that go through hours of labor.

Game # 2

If you want the 2nd pick of the prizes – Show us a picture of your Belly Bump –the "Best" Bump will win! You'll be posting this on your blog!

You are kidding right? No bump pictures here. ;)

Game # 3

If you want the 3rd pick of the prizes, Submit a photo of your Babies Nursery. The "Best" Nursery Photo will win. You'll be posting this on your blog too!
Here it is. Can you tell I love Pooh?

Game #4
If you want the 4th pick of the prizes, The Biggest Baby will win! This can be a comment with stats or a photo on your blog along with Stats.
Ds#2 was my bigger but he was only 8lb. 6 oz so now hulk here thank goodness. We was two weeks early so I could have had the winning bruiser if he was on time :).

Cushie Pushie Featured in US1 Article

Kathleen McGinn Spring wrote a wonderful article highlighting the baby product niche market and highlighted the Cushie Pushie in her article.

When speaking of the Cushie Pushie, Kathleen states, "There are so many little nagging problems in life. No one thinks about them until they occur, and most just continue to be a minor annoyance. But some become the genesis of a new business. ...It's a good bet that many busy moms who try it will slap themselves on the head and say: 'Why didn't I think of that!'"

Other featured products include the Plush Pad by Ah Goo Baby, a nursery changing table on the road.

PRESS RELEASE - Cushie Pushie Breast Support Pillow Launches for Breastfeeding Moms

Lawrenceville, NJ (August 8, 2007) – Lois Whittaker, entrepreneur and mother of two, announces the launch of her new product, the Cushie PushieTM. The Cushie Pushie is a pillow designed to help nursing mothers gain the correct breast position for optimal breastfeeding. The patent pending product is made for mothers by a mother. The Cushie Pushie is a cushiony pillow that pushes the breast upward in order to allow easy latching on by the nursing child, while maintaining correct positioning throughout the feeding. By keeping the breast pushed up, it also frees one hand from continually supporting the breast while nursing. It is a third hand for busy moms who are continually multi-tasking, even while nursing. This product is particular helpful for larger breasted moms or moms whose breast lack the elasticity they one had.

The product is made of 100% polyester fill. It is non-allergenic, does not clump, and is machine washable. The exterior surface is a soft, cotton material. The unique triangular shape allows the breast to be pushed up while allowing the arm to provide additional support to help keep it in place throughout the feeding.

“As a new mom, breastfeeding was very important to me, yet it seemed a constant battle to support and readjust my breast. I knew I could not be the only one with this problem and there had to be a better way. I wanted to make breastfeeding as easy as possible to encourage ontinued breastfeeding. With the support of my mommy friends, Cushie Pushie was born,” tates owner and inventor of the Cushie Pushie, Lois Whittaker.

Cushie Pushies come in a variety of fun, colorful designs. Whether the style is pastel and cutesy or bold and vibrant, there is a Cushie Pushie for any mom’s style.
